About

Crooked Oaks cottage is located in the quiet cottage town, Village of Dunnottar, which is made up of three towns, Matlock, Whytewold and Ponemah that border the west side of Lake Winnipeg, located only 30 minutes north of Winnipeg and 12 minutes south of Gimli.  Matlock, Whytewod and Ponemah are known for their large sandy beaches and rustic log swimming piers showcasing gorgeous sunrises and beautiful dancing colours on the water at sunset.

The Village of Dunnottar is only 30 minutes North of the Winnipeg Perimeter, making it close to the city but well situated with the lake on one side and large treed areas and farming fields that surround the town.

The name of the cottage, Crooked Oaks, was named for the two twining oak trees that stand in the front yard. The cottage was built starting in 1953, and finished in 1968. While the cottage was renovated recently to its full potential, the beautiful, unique wood ceilings were maintained.

The cottage and guest house sit on a large corner lot, located across from a rarely used railway for taking corn up to Gimli’s world famous whiskey distillery, Crown Royal. It is quite lovely watching the train make its slow drive through the community, listening to it rumble along  once a week. The railways also has new walking paths running alongside the track (to be completed summer 2017) that will lead from Matlock beach and head North up to the Dunnottar Station Museum and Ponemah Beach Central Art Centre.
